Amen? Can I get an amen?! If you own a small business I’m sure you already are amen-ing from the title. If you’re not a small business owner, let me give you some insight.
It’s not all glitter and rainbows over here.
I made a commitment in the new year to blog 52 times a year. (at least!) and I’m not very awesome with numbers (read: horrible at math) but, that’s once a week. Although today, my blog was supposed to be my favorite invitation round-up of 2014, it just wasn’t fitting. Today has been hard! If I was to sit here and show you all the pretties from last year, it would feel totally unauthentic. Luckily, another blog I had on my list was the “not-so-fabulous business ownership”. Unfortunately, Instagram tends to lend it’s self to all things beautiful and bright, the truth is there’s a lot of behind the scenes that isn’t so beautiful.
Let’s take a little stroll down reality lane, so you can see how life really goes down some days, including today. I will also have you know that I remained tearless today, and chalk all these things up to “little fails” and I hope you can chuckle along at some of these fails and not thing I’m totally being a Deborah Downer. I love my job, and the life that I’m able to live doing it. And, there is actually a lot of glitter involved. You can either love or hate it’s never ending trail. These moments are just to bring it all into perspective. We’ve got some dreamy instagram pictures on the left… and what’s really going on on the right.
When I post a pretty picture like this one, it takes something way less pretty to make it happen.
When I want pretty wall art like this, sometimes it looks like this.
When I show you pretty mugs on my shelf, sometimes they don’t make it through the dishwasher and come out like this.
And when I post pretty pictures of my Christmas cards, sometimes the ink doesn’t dry and it ends up like this.
And lots of times when I post pictures of my pretty wall, the rest of my house looks like this.
And even today, as I posted pictures of these beautiful handkerchiefs going to print, I had to peel off 100 stickers before I could hand them over.
And sometimes I get so excited about my new printer in my home, but it’s hard work, has a big learning curve, and costs a lot of money like today. Today I sent some material through the printer and it totally stuck to the fuser. Big. Mistake. This photo is of me following a Youtube video about how to clean it. It was all for nothing, as we had to order another one for $200ish today. Ouch! There are some lessons harder to learn than others.
I hope you’ve enjoyed my personal reality check today!
And the biggest secret of it all?
It’s all worth it. Don’t be scared to follow your dreams. Scary as it is for me even still, I wouldn’t change it for a thing.
