I’m not a camper. I’ve never really had a good time camping. It’s all fun and games until it’s time to sleep. I need sleep.
We decided to head out to Grant to camp, where there’s some secluded fields, but civilization (and grandmother’s house) isn’t too far if things got bad (cold) enough. We first planned to go the weekend of November 7th, but it was going to rain rain rain. We pushed it back to November 14th instead… we got cold, cold cold. I’ll take it over rain though!
We had a sweet little set-up, and watched the BAMA vs. STATE game thanks to a borrowed generator and a digital antenna. We got our fire going, roasted some killer “stadium dogs” and huddled super close to the fire.
Until it was time to sleep…. oh man. I would say the sleeping part was equally terrible to any other camping experience I’ve had. I’ll take any and all advice to making this part of camping less terrible! My nose pretty much froze off.
When the sun came up, we were up too… remember the part about huddling close to the fire? Yea, a little too close!
The best part of traveling with the Baggetts would have to be the fact that Margaret is a chef. She cooked a stellar fire breakfast with bacon, eggs, hash browns and “campfire cakes”. 🙂
After some pretty mediocre fire coffee, we decided to “visit Grandmother and Paw Paw” because they definitely wanted to see us, right?! We got some good hot coffee, a real bathroom and warmed right up with some good company. Thanks GG and Paw Paw for saving us! By the time we got back to camp, it was warm enough to move around in a normal amount of clothing.
Time for shooting! Yes, this is my very first time to shoot a gun. The other two guns I have shot before are a laser gun and a paintball gun. This is a 12ga shotgun. (I had to ask to make sure even for this blog) Apparently, this was the wrong type of gun to try first. It kicked so hard, I shot once and put it down. Pictured here is Rudy showing me how to aim, take off the safety and hold the gun. The picture on the far right is my first shot! This is by far my least favorite 30 Before 30 activity yet, but it’s checked off nonetheless!
Okay, I did shoot it once more… for the video! This was my SECOND time to shoot a gun, and first time to shoot at a clay. I really wish I had better news about hitting the clay. I did not… not even close. I shot a .22 pistol also, and the slide part came back and hit me in the thumb and hurt worse than the kick of the shotgun. No. Thanks.
In other news, I’m not good at throwing the clays either… Happy Monday! Go get ’em!
P.S. When we returned the generator to my cousin I told him about how I didn’t like shooting the shotgun, and well, he didn’t like that so he got a pumpkin and a .22 rifle, and I did actually hit the pumpkin and didn’t mind shooting that gun! Thanks, Jason!
