Here we are again! Another 30 Before 30 post. That means we are knocking them off left and right! Okay, okay… if I’m going to be honest, this trip was planned before the 30 List, but it doesn’t mean that the Grand Canyon wasn’t on my big bucket list anyways!
I’m going to go ahead and put this out there, too… This was a trip-of-lifetime for me! Not in the sense that I won’t ever go to Vegas again, but getting to experience it with my love for the first time just made it that much more special!
First, I’m going to do a little recap of our journey as #lasvegils, but the “grand” part of this post is coming!
I was surprised with a limo ride from the airport, and driving tour of The Strip and delivered in style to our hotel, The Flamingo!
Favorite “meal” goes to this mound of goodness! I ate at Serendipity 3 with my mom in NYC in May 2014, and now this! Oh me, oh my!
We toured the city day & night, and actually went inside nearly all of the resorts… except maybe the Mirage!
My favorites: Paris & Luxor.
However, the main reason we booked this trip was to see Jimmy Buffett! Rudy and I are some of the very few of our friends that actually would call ourselves Parrotheads. I have my dad to thank for that, and well, Rudy lived on an island for seven years, so it’s only fitting. We’ve seen Jimmy 5 times together now, but only 3 were when we actually were “together”! We both know that he won’t be playing for that much longer (please maybe 5 years at least!?) and so we want to see him as much as possible!
We did it right! Margaritaville, the Official Pool Party at our hotel, and a few cheeseburgers and several margaritas! And, of course, good Ol’ Jimmy!
And here it goes! The “grand” finale to this already amazing trip! The best part about this 30 Before 30 item being checked off is that it could have been four separate things on the list! We did three more things that absolutely made our journey to the Grand Canyon even better!
Our First Stop: Hoover Dam
Absolutely breath taking! I never thought I had a real fear of heights until I got on this bridge and looked down into the dam. Oh. my. gosh. I couldn’t even make it to the middle of the bridge without getting shaky. We got our photos by two new state signs and saw the beautiful creations of God and man combined!
Our Destination: The Grand Canyon
There is nothing to prepare your brain for what you’re going to see when you are headed up the sidewalk to Mather’s Point. I was literally speechless! I’m so blessed to be able to see something so amazing. I definitely know why it’s one of the Wonders of the World. Someone commented on one of my photos and said that any potential photo you take would only capture 4% of The Grand Canyon! We did get a little bit of rain while we were there, but we got to take cover with a bunch of strangers under a bus stop while it passed.
Our Detour: Route 66
On the way back, we saw a sign for Route 66! On a whim, we took the road and off we went! We had a convertible for Pete’s sake! One of my favorite things was the different terrain. It it so different from anything we have in Alabama. Parts of it looked like just piles of rocks stacked up and I thought, “What a strange way for God to build a mountain!”
The only problem with the detour is that it took us an extra hour to get to our dinner spot…. but it was worth the wait!
